Day 2: A short history of anxiety

Anxiety is a word we hear often today, but it has a long and exciting history. Long ago, people from ancient cultures like the Greeks and Egyptians noticed signs of anxiety. They thought supernatural forces or gods caused these. It was only around the 1800s that people started to understand anxiety as a health issue.

Influential thinkers like Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung helped us see anxiety as part of our minds. This change in thinking was a big step. It moved anxiety from something mystical to something we could study and understand. As we look at the history of anxiety, we learn not just about this condition but also how people have always tried to make sense of their fears and find balance in their minds.

Anxiety was born in the very same moment as mankind. And since we will never be able to master it, we will have to learn to live with it— just as we have learned to live with storms. - Paulo Coelho
